What does the police department do for us?

The 10 officers in Williamsburg (2 full-time and 8 part-time) handle over 3,000 events per year, ranging from loose dogs to violent people and everything in between. Members of the Department respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, handle department administrative functions, do routine patrols and criminal investigations, respond to medical emergencies, investigate traffic crashes, and attend court.

They are trained to respond to a large variety of circumstances such as drug possession and distribution cases, sexual assaults, burglaries, domestic violence, child abuse and many other serious offenses. Officers receive training in appropriate use of force, de-escalation, and implicit bias. They are all trained in mental health first aid and have trained clinical staff they can call as well.

The Department also does public service activities such as a drug take-back day and child car seat inspections. With the fire department, they have sponsored a relay run/walk to raise money for the benefit of public health and well-being.
