Meeting Minutes

February 20, 2019

 

Board Members Present:  Jacqueline Dufresne, Daria D’Arienzo, Jim Cahillane.  Quorum: yes

Assoc Members Present:  Dean Acheson, Jerry Mann

Staff Present:  Jennifer Hoffman, Sherry Loomis

Guests:  Jan Gibeau & Deb Hollingsworth

Meeting commenced at 12:15 PM

Jan introduced Deb to the group. Jan discussed the results of the senior surveys. Return rate was good, feedback shows similarities and differences among the towns. She suggested having a core group to go ahead with related issues, and that could lead to other sources of funding. Also suggested having AARP designate the consortium as Age Friendly.  Jan said that Fran Ryan will be trying to put more rural content in the Gazette, and that the Windsor Select Board is making aging and senior issues a focus.

Jen will meet with Deb re organizing groups and making a core team for outreach and other issues. Deb described her background and experience. Discussed homecare, outreach, aging in place and other challenges.

Minutes:  Jim moved to accept the January 22 minutes as amended, Daria seconded. All Approved.

Public Comment: Jan announced a film fest in Chesterfield that night at 6:00 and invited all to attend.

HVES:  Jen reported that she has been oriented to be on the HVES board and committees. She will join a committee determining need.

Director’s Report:

Jen reported she has been extremely busy, there is a huge need for a HEN-type program in Williamsburg. She is working on a plan to help seniors in town get the help they need. Jen also reported on the Senior Prom. Short discussion. She has completed the volunteer manual and reported on two volunteers, Trina Hope and Carol Hendricks, who are helping out in the office. Carol will also help with outreach. She is still seeking people who are willing to help. Jen has updated policy statements and code of conduct.

New Business: Jen handed out the budget, attached. She will be meeting with Charlie Hayes regarding the HEN program and the $4,000 the town gives them every year that we could possibly use to start our own program if we did not get in the CDBG grant this year. Jim suggested structuring into the year 3-4 fundraisers to help with program funding. Suggested wine-tasting and a town-wide tag sale. Jim reported that 4 people attended the Thriller Book Club on Feb. 19th. Next COA meeting to be held 3/20/19.

Daria made motion to close meeting, Jim seconded. Meeting adjourned at 1:27 PM
