How do I find out if there are wetlands on my property?

Some wetlands are mapped on the state's GIS system.  However, not all wetlands are on the map, so walking your property with an eye to wet spots, temporary streams, and wetland vegetation is always a good idea.  To use the GIS system,

  • go to https://maps.massgis.digital.mass.gov/MassMapper/MassMapper.html
  • type in the address you are researching
  • click the search icon/magnifying glass on the right hand side of the page
  • type in DEP Wetlands - several options will show up.   DEP Wetlands detailed with outlines is  most useful.  Linear features shows streams, and may be more accurate than town maps.

If you know you have wetlands and need to have them delineated for preparing a work plan, the Conservation Commission has a list of wetlands consultants who can be hired to do the delineation.
